First, I greatly appreciate being a part of this group and looking forward to a long creative and inspiring exchange of concepts and ideas. I realize we are embarking on a new and innovative process for sharing work and engaging in a dialogue about the work and therefore active participation is everything to the success of the group. So…here is my attempt in responding to Katie’s September 14th post.
As an abstract the image works well aesthetically. Good balance and use of space, very effective color palette, emotionally strong, intriguing, and contains a prevailing sense of movement. The various layers add to the solid composition. Abstracts by nature offer little if any main focal point/subject. However, Katie’s image draws one’s eye to the top center, the lightest area, allowing for some sense of subject – a visual starting point. Nothing is static about the image and each viewing provides a different response.
A question for Katie; was your approach to the image premeditated or serendipitous? Is the image part of a larger body of work?
When posting an image I would like to suggest a brief description of the process used. Being the inaugural monoprint we are off to a great start.
This image allows me to dream...landscape-sand dunes -moonscape...the light spilling over the mountain...the dark areas in the foreground all support the image...love this!
